Camping at Neys - Summer 2026

This summer wasn't too eventful for me, but I still had a great time. I continued to work part-time but I took on a few more shifts per week. I went out to my family's camp a few times. I hungout with my friends quite a bit, and we actually started playing pickleball, which took up most of our hangouts over the summer.

The only atleast semi-exciting thing I did was travel to Neys Provincial Park with two of my friends for a camping trip. We only went for a few days in June, but they were quite eventful.

The Trip

The travel there was fine other than almost losing my buddies canoe on the highway (we definitely did not strap it down properly, but luckily we noticed before it was too late and pulled over to fix it). Otherwise, the drive was actually really nice. I haven't done much travelling up that way before, but it surprised me how scenic of a drive it was. I'm used to driving out to my camp which is essentially just trees and bush for two and half hours, so it was a nice change.

The camping itself was fun but definitely had its moments. Unfortanately, the mosquitos were really awful and it was damp and wet most of the time we were there, so it was a little difficult to get a fire going.

On the second day we were there, me and one of my buddies 'accidentally' went on a 6 hour hike with no food, water, or bug spray, so that was pretty brutal but it was definitely an experience. By accidentally, I mean we hadn't intended to go that far at all, but it was a big loop around the park and by the time we wanted to turn back, we thought it would be easier to just continue and complete the loop (we were so wrong and severely underestimated what we were getting ourselves into). The second half of the trail consisted of very rough and steep uphill terrain, and then was followed by a multiple kilometre long road that had by far the worst mosquitos I've ever experienced.

Anyways, after all that we were pretty exhausted. And then on top of that, that night it poured rain and leaked through our tent, so when we went to pack up to leave in the morning, the majority of our stuff was soaking wet, so that was a real annoyance. It was safe to say we were all pretty miserable and exhausted on the way back home.

Overall, besides all the inconviences, I thought it was definitely an expeience I'm glad I had and I think I will look back on it for many years to come, especially when planning our nect camping trip.
